Wordstock Volunteer Application Form

Thank you for signing up to volunteer at Wordstock 2009! If you have volunteered with us in the past, thanks for coming back! If you?re new, welcome aboard! This year, the festival is during the weekend of October 8-11, 2009, at the Oregon Convention Center.

Volunteers are vital to the festival?s success, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Please note that we have made some changes to the application form, so if you are a return volunteer, read the directions closely. After submitting your application, a Volunteer Coordinator will contact you via e-mail to confirm your shift(s). Please allow up to one week for your confirmation. If you are volunteering for school credit, please bring a form to the festival for one of the Volunteer Coordinators to sign.

Volunteers are split up into various teams. Below you will find descriptions that outline some of the tasks and responsibilities of each team. Please read them thoroughly, as you will choose the team you would like to volunteer for.

AUTHOR & INFORMATION TEAM: Escort authors to stages and workshops; assist visitors with questions; work at the Merchandising Table (a Wordstock staff member will be present to help with specific training, money handling, merchandise descriptions, etc.); assist with lines at author signing areas; assist with Wordstock for Writers Workshops (signing in attendees, etc.)

VOLUNTEER & FLEX TEAM: Assist in the Volunteer Room; sign in volunteers; train volunteers; hand out t-shirts; assist with other teams, when and where needed

STAGE TEAM: STAGE MANAGER: Assist with stage logistics (sound, lighting, etc.); greet and assist authors; run stage computer, including loading author presentations.

Additional Information: Managers have an assistant, so they are able to take breaks and can listen to the readings at their stages. Stage managing experience is not required for this position; however, if you have been a Stage Manager before or have previous experience working with sound equipment, we would appreciate it if you volunteered for this important position.

STAGE TEAM: STAGE ASSISTANT: Cover breaks for the Stage Manager; assist with crowd control during particularly busy readings; escort authors to signing areas

CHILDREN?S AREA TEAM: Assist children in book making and other craft projects; assist with crowd control

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Megan Wellman, Bradi Grebien-Samkow, and Heather Wilkinson, our Volunteer Coordinators at volunteer@wordstockfestival.com. Thank you again, and we look forward to meeting you at Wordstock 2009!
