What is the Wordstock Teacher as Writer Program?
The Wordstock Teacher as Writer Program is our 5-day writing and professional development workshop intensive, accredited through the University of Portland. The workshop focuses on the writing process, exploring and supporting the personal writing experience while introducing creative, fun, and effective classroom strategies for cultivating the voices of student writers. Teachers will also be able to conference with professional writers in order to produce a polished personal narrative by the end of the week.
Teachers have said that the experience enabled them to:
-Become a better writer and teacher of writing
-Earn graduate credits or PDU certificate from the University of Portland (see below for details)
-Create original work & receive coaching from professional writers
-Share expertise and teaching strategies, and become part of a community of like-minded colleagues
What are the 2012 program dates?
There are TWO sessions to choose from, both generously hosted by the University of Portland:
June 25-29, 2012
August 20-24, 2012
Who can participate?
While this workshop is open to teachers of any grade level, it is ideal for teachers instructing students in Grades 2-12.
What is the cost?
Program Fee: $500 (includes resource packet)
Additional Fee will apply if taking workshop for credit. We are happy to accept program payment in two installments.
Are scholarships available?
YES! We have some scholarship funds available that could cover up to 50% of your program fee. To be eligible for available scholarship funds, send in your completed registration form, scholarship request form, and $250 refundable program deposit by Friday, May 18 at 5:00pm.
Anything else I should know?
YES! YOU COULD EARN A FREE FAMILY WRITE NIGHT PROGRAM FOR YOUR SCHOOL! If three teachers from the same school register for Teacher as Writer in Summer 2012, Wordstock will DONATE a Family Write Night to your school ($400 value).
