prolific local author david michael slater is our first addition to the 2008 children’s stage. david was part of our lineup last year, but was unable to participate at the last minute. we’re thrilled that he’ll be part of the festival this year. david has lot going on these days.
david’s picture book flour girl was recently awarded a silver medal in the 2008 mom’s choice awards. and his wordless story “the labyrinth” will be part of a world of stories (gumboot books, sept 2008), a special book being created to raise money for literacy projects. each story in the collection relates to a different international holiday (”the labyrinth” was written for international stand up to bullying day) and the gumboot books website will include educational materials to help parents and teachers discuss each story’s theme with kids.
but that’s not all. david will also debut a young adult series this year. the first title, the book of nonsense (cbay books), comes out in october.
and finally, david will also see two works of adult fiction published this year! his book of short stories, the book of letters (evermore books), is due out this summer, and his coming-of-age novel, selfless(absey & co.) is slated for october.
oh, and did i mention he does all this while teaching our youth? in middle school, no less.
learn more about all these and his other children’s titles on his website.
