Laton Carter's first collection of poems, Leaving (University of Chicago Press), won the 2005 Stafford-Hall Oregon Book Award. His poems have appeared in Northwest Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Burnside Review, Notre Dame Review, and on the buses and trains in the Portland Mass Transit System. He currently teaches creative writing at Portland State University.
